ONLY LOVE - NEW HERITAGE THEATRE 50th ANNIVERSARY (2014)
A brief history of the New Heritage Theatre, from 1964 to 2014, from Roger Furman to Voza Rivers to Jamal Joseph to Impact Repertory Theatre and the future of a great cultural and entertainment tradition in Harlem.
Only Love is a documentary about the oldest Black theater and arts organization in New York City and one of the oldest and more prolific of America.
New Heritage Theatre Group - the oldest Black theater company in New York City - originated in 1964 under the name New Heritage Repertory Theatre by the late Roger Furman, a revered playwright, director, actor and lecturer, who began his career in the 1940s with the American Negro Theatre in Harlem. The life of the organization expanded and morphed during the years accross the past and the current century, but it’s mission always stayed the same: to preserve and sustain classic works of Black theater and innovate and support the arts in Harlem through theater, music and cinema.
